WHAT HAPPENED TO ALLOW TOXIC BEAUTY TO BECOME MAINSTREAM?
The industrialization of hair & beauty care products was initially for convenience.
Fast beauty has been trending since the early 1930’s when governing bodies granted self regulation to the cosmetic industry.
Big beauty industry products have been marketed without government approval of ingredients, regardless of what tests have shown. It did not take long for big beauty to capitalize on producing quick, cheap ingredients made with from petro chemicals, plastics and synthetics.
Think of that aerosol can of Final Net hair spray, or that Axe body spray, or perhaps you remember JOOP!??
All synthetic, plastic, petro chemicals and phthalates — and all made with the least amount of thought for the physical body. Advertising and marketing became the game changer to how and where these big companies put their money. Little did consumers know about the cheap synthetics that were accumulating in our oceans, lakes, water systems and our own bodies.
